Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a deadbolt and a keyed knob lock?
A deadbolt throws a solid bolt deep into the frame and resists forced entry far better than a spring latch. A keyed knob or lever locks the handle itself. Exterior doors are most secure with both a deadbolt and a keyed handle.
Will a door lock fit my door?
Most residential locks fit the standard 2-1/8 inch bore with a 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inch backset. Confirm your door thickness and backset, and for deadbolts check the bore spacing from the handle.
What does backset mean on a door lock?
Backset is the distance from the door edge to the center of the bore hole, usually 2-3/8 inches for interior doors or 2-3/4 inches for exterior. The lock's latch must match this measurement.
